Book Nook - Great pick for emerging readers!

I had to share this amazing book with everyone now that Babygirl is finally off to bed! We have been out and about these past few days enjoying the long summer days. We have also been reading this book about five times a day since we met and purchased it from the author, Kwame Alexander, at the farmers' market this past weekend!

I really can't say enough about what a fun read Indigo Blume and the Garden City is. The cheery, colorful illustrations really complement and energize the playful prose. Now, this book is almost 30 pages long, but Babygirl has sat still through multiple readings, and I have a hard time keeping her interested sometimes through Dr. Seuss stories!

Indigo Blume and the Garden City is about a determined little girl who, despite the doubts of her friends, decides to better her community by planting a rooftop garden. Kwame Alexander shows kids that all a garden needs is "seeds and sun, ... organic potting soil" and a healthy amount of positivity. I look forward to many more re-readings with Babygirl in years to come.
